NEW ZEALAND SHIP AND MARINE SOCIETY
HAWKES BAY BRANCH
The HAWKES BAY BRANCH of the NZ Ship
& Marine Society was formed in Napier in 1969, and has
flourished ever since. The Branch has produced a monthly illustrated newsletter, "Leading Lights", since June 1981. It features marine
articles, profiles of first-time port arrivals, historic port statistics, etc. The Branch has an extensive library of maritime books, shipping records and videos which are available for members research or
to borrow. There is also free exchange of members own resources.
Meetings are held in the Old Customhouse, Ahuriri, Napier (shown above) usually on
the fourth Monday of every month.
The entertainment section of the meetings features videos, slides, speakers (when available) etc., all
maritime orientated.
